HOW DID THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT COME TO BE? BON JOVI did a completely acoustic concert in Yokohama, Japan in January 2003. It was recorded and expected to become a live acoustic CD and DVD. But the band wasnt satisfied so, in June 2003, while on tour in Europe, the band spend time in an Amsterdam recording studio working on several songs. They enjoyed the process immensely but due to a touring schedule, the work would need to wait until the Bounce World Tour was complete. In the meantime, they also realized they needed someone to work with on the project and Pat Leonard was the first choice, based on his previous work with Elton John and Madonna, as well as his work on several UnPlugged albums. In mid-August, Patrick Leonard joined BON JOVI in New Jersey and began working on these songs. Pat challenged the band to try taking the songs in entirely new directions and THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT was born.
SO, IS THIS AN ACOUSTIC ALBUM? No. THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT is not an acoustic album. Each song was stripped down to its core elements. Being that each song Jon and Richie write begins as a composition on acoustic guitars, the essence of each song was acoustic. But from that starting point, each song was completely recrafted and rebuilt. While the songs do maintain a heavily acoustic slant, it is not a pure acoustic album.
SO, IS THIS A GREATEST HITS ALBUM? Yes, though its not just a collection of the bands greatest hits as available on other album. Each song is very well known but versions on THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT are completely different from the originals. A large anthem like Its My Life has been redone as an intimate plea. A raucous fun tune like You Give Love A Bad Name has a jazzy, sexy turn to it. Tempos, lyrics, arrangements, instrumentations the band experimented with all of them and created this collection of their greatest hits but theres a twist. The twist? The entirely new renditions of song you *thought * you knew.
WHAT DOES THE TITLE THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT MEAN? When you are following a certain expected path and you go off in an unexpected direction, its said that youve made a left turn. Youve deviated from the norm. Thats what BON JOVI did with their greatest hits. Theyve taken very well-known songs and taken them in an entirely new unexpected direction. Yet, the band felt it was the right thing to do. Thus the title: THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT. Its not what was expected but it felt good for the band.
THE BAND RELEASED BOUNCE JUST A YEAR AGO AND THEY JUST WRAPPED UP A WORLD TOUR IN AUGUST ISNT THIS FAST FOR A NEW ALBUM? Absolutely! The band brought the album together in just 23 days. There are lots of songs the band could have reworked there were time constraints to consider. Its faster than theyve worked in the past, and they worked long hours but have confessed that this is the most fun theyve had in the studio in years.
WILL THE BAND TOUR IN SUPPORT OF THIS ALBUM? No. Theres no tour planned. The versions of the songs would not be able to be performed by Jon, Richie, Tico, Dave and Huge alone. It would require additional instruments, additional musicians, an arranger its a lot of work. No tour is planned however, BON JOVI will be doing two shows in Atlantic City in mid-November that will be filmed and released as a DVD in early 2004.

No details on the plot or Jon's role but 'I've been to school - baby, I've been the teacher' are song lyrics that come to mind.
